George Knott School has recently participated in the 2nd Annual Island Lake Regional Science Fair last February 7 & 8, 2018 held at Garden Hill First Nation High School.
GKS sent a delegation of 15 students from early years, middle years and high school to showcase their awesome science experiments joining other schools from St. Theresa Point and Garden Hill to connect and relate with the science fair theme this year Look deep into nature then you will understand everything better.
Our team was accompanied by the GKS science committee spearheaded by Keith Ranville, Butch and Corazon Rabasto, Dustin Knott, Mark & Sarah Wood, Grace Demapanag, Blandilyn Galeon, Tanis Harper and Cecilia H. Mason.
The 1st day of the Science Fair allowed all participating schools to set up their respective booths at the gymnasium of Garden Hill First Nation High School. The opening ceremony, introduction and orientation of the events was hosted by Rosely Booth and her team from MFNERC as well as Garden Hill High school principal and welcoming staff followed by a sumptuous lunch. The rest of the afternoon was a treat to the participating students letting them visit other science fair showcases like the planetarium, alien-making activities, virtual reality and drone aerial photography as well as robotics with different robots performing various acts through their programmed circuitry and sensors.
Here are some of the highlights of the day.
The 2nd day was the big day for everyone! Judges from MFNERC and assigned school teachers went around the booths of the students to evaluate their experiments and presentation based on the standard criteria and merits of the science fair. There was a stiff competition among the participating schools and when the smoke settled down, lo and behold! Our science team garnered gold, silver and bronze medals with one of our own student from Grade 12 (Jasmine Wood) selected to participate in the upcoming Canada-wide science fair in Ottawa! Congratulations to the winners! You all make us proud!

We also would like to appreciate the full and whole hearted support of our principal, Adam Knott and vice-principal, Leslie Harper as well as the people who gave their time and effort to bring our science team to Garden Hill and back during the 2-day affair (Randy Harper, Donna and Marcel Harper and Samantha Harper).
