GKS High School students set off for a fishing event at Stone Lake last April 7, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. under the supervision of the high school teachers and staff led by Fabian Harper, Randy Harper, Sylvia Harper, Butch Rabasto, Bradley Harper, Maurice Wood and Sarah Wood. The group used three (3) vehicles to bring them to and from the fishing ground at Stone Lake.
Photos below show the advance party arrival. Fabian Harper is all set with his fishing gear.
Stone Lake is just a few kilometers away from George Knott School. It is a beautiful view to behold encompassing the soap-like snow and surrounded by green forest. We took a leisurely stroll while waiting for the other students to arrive. We enjoyed sight-seeing the pristine shorelines of the island lake, the verdant trees that resemble a rain forest, the blue sky which paints the horizon, and the cool, fresh spring breeze gently blowing on a bright sunny day.
This is the designated place where the students will hold their ice fishing activity.
The advance party group of students gathered firewood and prepared the campfire upon arrival at the fishing site.
Bradley Harper and some students explored the area and dug holes on the icy lake to be used as a fishing ground for the students. Maurice Wood tested the water in the ice holes with his fishing gear.
Another group of students arrived.
Ice fishing officially begins.
At 12:00 noon, Rodney and Kaige called the group’s attention for lunch time from a tree top.
The students gathered together to eat lunch. Everyone enjoyed preparing their favorite combo sandwiches (smokies and hotdogs) flavored with ketchup, mustard and relish. Sodas and chips were also served.
The students find time for fun.
Finally, the caught fishes for final judging.
The awards - 1st place goes to Dawson Rae for catching the longest jackfish
2nd place goes to John Harper for the next longest jackfish caught
The fishing event at Stone Lake ended at 2:30 in the afternoon and the students went back to school.
It was a fun-filled outdoor activity at Stone Lake for the High School students, with all the excitement, fellowship and camaraderie this event offered. The students look forward for another round of get-together event in the future.
Thank you for the whole-hearted support of Leslie Harper (GKS Principal), Adam Knott (High School Vice-Principal), Jody Koch (Middle Years Vice-Principal) and all the high school teachers and staff who made this ice fishing activity possible.
