In 2007, two Nova Scotia students decided to take action after witnessing a younger student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.
The students bought 50 pink t-shirts and encouraged schoolmates to wear them and send a powerful message of solidarity to the bully.
Various organizations were inspired by the story and raised funds to support the anti-bullying programs across the country by pairing up with schools
to help run the events. These programs teach children empathy, kindness and the importance of building healthy relationships – both with themselves and their peers.
The t-shirt design was created pro-bono by award-winning advertising agency ‘Rethink’ and states “Kindness is one size fits all”. The phrase “one size fits all”
functions for one simple reason: it stands for inclusivity, both in clothing and in our everyday lives. We’re all adorably different, but we all have the capacity
to bring out kindness and respect, attributes that are important to help build belonging into this world. Pink Day is a day where the different communities around
the world are united in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to all forms of bullying in their respective communities.
George Knott School joined the worldwide observance of Pink Day last April 12, 2017. All the students were gathered together in front of the school ground and
made a human PEACE sign formation to signify full support to this event (See aerial photos below taken from a helicopter).
The PEACE sign formed by the students, teachers and staff developed consciousness that we can do something to stop bullying!
